Obviously, I have nothing to say...Or maybe I do

I haven't been to into this is like forever...obviously.

For the record, it's after 10pm and I should be going to bed but I'm not. Maybe that's why I'm having such a crappy week...lack of sleep. Nah, that can't be it.

So I went on this cruise like a month ago...exactly a month ago today we disembarked. Wow! Good Golly, I can't believe it has already been a month. It was a Sweet cruise! More on the cruise later. I'm just not feeling it.

YEA!!! Meredith Baxter came OUT this week on the Today show!

What a fabulous, amazing lady!

I was fortunate enough to get to meet Meredith and Nancy on an excursion when we were in Belize City, Belize. We played on Zip lines and had a very enthusiastic tour guide name Elvis Usher!

Nancy, Meredith and me

Our Group took the name 'Hot Lips' after one of the indigenous plants in that area.

On the set on the ship, Boo is on boom! I'm sitting with my back to the person taking the picture in the Buc-ee's ball cap!

Howdy!

I'm back from my self imposed, temporary, summer sabbatical to nowhere NC. Actually, I had a very nice time and it is beautiful and more importantly cool. I am NOT excited about the 100 degree weather we have been having here in H-town! We had cloud cover today, so it was only 97, woohoo!

So I put some Chelsea Love at the bottom of my blog. Game On is hilarious!!
So is her playing dodgeball with her staff. i'll see if I can find that clip on youtube and add it as well.

I super excited about Malinda Lo's first book which is being released in September. This is a photo of me and her is from the AE Meet & Greet in SF last June. It was lots of fun and she was very nice and very cool.
Anyway, I excited about her book, Ash. It is a lesbian Cinderella story.

Read more about her book (http://www.malindalo.com/ash/) on her blog.

I am also looking forward to reading this book:

Sidney Sheldon is probably my all time favorite author. He is the first 'adult' writer that I read when I was like in middle school (I was like 10 ish, I think). I loved his Master of the Game. This is suppose to be a sequel. I'll let you know if it is any good.

I set a goal to read 40 books this summer and I'm doing pretty good so far. I'll let you know in a month if I reach my goal and what I liked best. So far I have to say Gina Glass's Spitfire is totally at the top of my list.

That's all I got for now.

it only takes a minute....

Please tell your friends to tell their friends today!

The Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people to click on their site daily to meet their quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman.

It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on 'donating a mammogram' for free (pink window in the middle).

This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertiser s use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising.

Chew More, Weigh Less?

Next time you grab a handful of nuts to snack on, count to 40.

A recent study revealed that when people ate a small serving of almonds, 40 chews quelled hunger better than 10 or even 25 crunches of the same amount of nuts. The Magic NumberNot only did the extra chews help curb hunger best, but also the feelings of fullness lasted longest when people gave the nuts the extra chews. And the practice may work with other foods, too, because researchers suspect it may simply be the mere act of chewing that switches on your brain’s satiety center.

Last Week...

So I read the 100 most influencial people edition of Time magazine. Ok, mostly I just skimmed it to see who they deemed most influencial. I mean, does anyone actually read those news mags from cover to cover?
No, really? I'm curious about that. I have tried on occasion, but I just can't. I actually rarely read any magazine like that. In fact, I don't often read entire articles.
At first a headline may spark an interest and after a paragraph or two I no longer care. Sometimes I actually get half through the article before I stop caring, but rarely do I make it to that final period box thing that marks the true end of the article.
Is there such a thing as reading ADD because I might have that?

But I disgress. After skimming the issue of Time I made my own list from theirs (because who has time to actually compile their own). I'm not sure influencial is the right word either. So here is my 2009 most outstanding persons list. These are in no particular order

The Twitter Guys (Jack Dorsey & Biz Stone)
Suze Orman
Jeff Kinney
Tom Hanks
Lauren Zalaznich
Barbara Hogan
Kate Winslet
Tina Fey
Sarah Palin
Chesley B. Sullenberger
Richard Phillips
Jeff Bezos

If you aren't familiar with someone on the list, then you should educated yourself and look them up. I have provided a couple of useful links below:

Church Gossip

Priscilla, the church gossip, and self-appointed monitor of the church's morals, kept sticking her nose into other people's business several members did not approve of her extra curricular activities, but feared her enough to maintain their silence.

She made a mistake, however, when she accused Elmer, a new member, of being an alcoholic after she saw his old pickup parked in front of the town's only bar one afternoon. She emphatically told Elmer (and several others) that everyone seeing it there would know exactly what he was doing!

Elmer, a man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just turned and walked away. He didn't explain, defend, or deny... he said nothing.

Later that evening, Elmer quietly parked his pickup in front of Priscilla's house.....walked home...and left it there all night. You gotta love Elmer.

Here's another funny:

A woman had just returned to her home from an evening of churchservices, when she was startled by an intruder. She caught the man in the act of robbing her home of its valuables and yelled: 'Stop! Acts 2:38!' (Repent and be Baptized, in the name of Jesus Christ, so that your sins may be forgiven.)
The burglar stopped in his tracks. The woman calmly called the police and explained what she had done.
As the officer cuffed the man to take him in, he asked the burglar: 'Why did you just stand there? All the old lady did was yell a scripture to you.''Scripture?' replied the burglar. 'She said she had an Ax and Two 38s!

Marriage

I have found the perfect quote about marriage. This is exactly how I feel.

"Just because I don’t want to take part in a meaningless ritual doesn’t mean that I’m not a warm and affectionate person. There are even some children who have taken to me." ~ 'Bones' Temperance Brennen on Bones

My favorite tv couple. I'm off to watch tonights episode.

"An Evening With Women"

Apparently this fundraiser happened this weekend. Dara meets Eliza "As if that wasn't enough to make my night, I ran into Eliza Dushku after dinner. I introduced myself and told her I was recapping Dollhouse for AfterEllen.com. She didn't walk off in a huff, so that was good. We talked about the show — she's a soft talker, so I happily had to lean in to hear her — and she said they finished shooting Season 1. I asked her if the finale had a good cliffhanger. She said no, but it's "very interesting," whatever that means. While we were talking, they rolled the video I wrote for the Arts & Entertainment Award. I was waiting to see it, but missed it because I was talking to Eliza — and you don't tell Eliza Dusku to shut up, just so you can admire yourself. My 10 Lists

I will be randomly sharing lists of 10 from time to time. As it is that time of year again for all the hot and beautiful people lists, I thought I would share my 10 nominees for AE's Hot 100 from last year. In a week or so I'll share my picks for this year since I'm currently still narrowing that list down to ten. I find it to be a fun brain teaser while I'm staring at students during the mind numbing procedure that TAKS testing has become.

So here is my pictorial list in a nifty collage with the number they actually fell on last year's AE HOT 100 list.

So if you would like to have your own list counted go to http://www.afterellen.com/people/2009/hot100/voting

And Vote.

More Fun Stuff...

Why Fruit Salad is Better Than a Banana
Are you stuck in a banana-a-day rut? Here’s a good reason to chop up that ’nana with some strawberries, apples, grapes, and oranges. It’s called synergy. You don’t just get a wider variety of nutrients by eating more fruits. Those nutrients actually work together to produce even more powerful health benefits than any single fruit could alone. Think of it like compounding interest -- but with fruit! http://www.realage.com/ct/eat-smart/food-and-nutrition/tip/8549
Fresh Ten Lesbians of Comedy
Cherry Grrl makes a list of comedies including Bridget, Erin and Suzanne. Go check it out!

Some belated wisdom from the Easter Bunny

ALL I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LIFE
I LEARNED FROM THE EASTER BUNNY
Don't put all of your eggs in one basket
Walk softly and carry a big carrot
Everyone needs a friend who is all ears
There's no such thing as too much candy
All work and no play can make you a basket case
A cute little tail attracts a lot of attention
Everyone is entitled to a bad hare day
Let happy thoughts multiply like rabbits
Some body parts should be floppy
Keep your paws off other people's jellybeans
Good things come in small sugarcoated packages
The grass is always greener in someone else's basket
An Easter bonnet can tame even the wildest hare
To show your true colors you have to come out of your shell
The best things in life are still sweet and gooey

Let's Talk About Sex!

Very Interesting editorial in the March 16 edition of Newsweek. I completely agree with the author. Why do we continue to throw money at something that is obviously not working.

I definitely believe that the parent should be the one to educate their children about sex; however, too many of them aren't doing it.

Common Sense

Here's an Obituary printed in the London Times. Interesting, and sadly, rather true.. Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
Knowing when to come in out of the rain; Why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and, Maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.
He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers: I Know My Rights, I Want It Now, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

I am so NOT into the l word

this season. I couldn't care less that it's the last season. The best thing about fifth season was the terrible trio (WGN). Ok and maybe crazy Jenny that was good entertainment. Most of the other storylines were just painful to watch and they are continuing into this season. Without WGN to look forward to I have zero incentive to actually watch the episodes. For the last two episodes I have just read Scribegrrl's recap and wondering what scenes the trio would have reenacted which frankly just depresses me more. (I have not reached the acceptance stage yet.)
Ok so enough of my rant.

This scene from episode one which I actually did watch twice (this scene not the entire ep) was quite enjoyable. Helena is one of the few characters left that I have really liked from her entrance in the series to now. "Wow! I guess she learned those badass moves in prison? And now she's the law in these here parts. Hey, that reminds me: where did Lucy Lawless go? So far, she's been the most interesting thing about this episode, and she was onscreen for about 30 seconds. While I'm thinking about this, let me make a wish: can we please put Sergeant Mary Beth Duffy and Helena Peabody in a room together?" Scribegrrl (http://www.afterellen.com/)

Where the hell is Lucy? She is pretty much the only redeeming thing about this season. I don't think I would watch at all if it wasn't for her.

When it rains, It pours...

And it's raining Jillie B.

Happy V-Day Everybody!

Ok, so then all of the JB action started like Friday. Yes, I know it's Saturday. Anyway as I was saying yesterday, Cathy & Jill were on Sirius radio with Frank and Doris. If like me you missed it (because I have to work because I like to eat), then I'm sure you can catch it via podcast in the near future.

Next up Jill guested on this week's episode of Cherry Bomb. That's up at afterellen.com.

Then the final part of this week's TVU was officially posted (on http://www.shewired.com/) yesterday. Unofficially the whole segment was up on Monday b/c I saw it then or at least I saw that it was available then. I didn't watch b/c I won't let myself watch it until all the papers are graded. It's my little reward for grading all the damn papers that piled up during the past week when I was sick and spending time with family after my G passed away. Anyway it looks like a good ep from the three minutes I watched.

Also Cathy & Jill's new webseries We Have To Stop Now premieres at JB's site (link below) today. I am very excited about that and I also won't be watching that until after the papers are graded. So if the player crashes today, it definitely won't be my fault.

AND finally (I think) you can view Out At The Wedding on Logo this Sunday. Both Cathy and Jill are in this film as well. I will be watching that papers be damned!

the following description of WHTSN is reposted courtsey of http://www.afterellen.com/:
Enjoy!

LOVERS AND THERAPISTSOut actresses Jill Bennett (Dante's Cove) and Cathy DeBuono (Out at the Wedding) are starring in a new web series launching tomorrow called We Have to Stop Now, which follows "two smokin’ hot lesbian therapists as they struggle to keep up the pretence of staying together when a documentary film crew invades their home after the success of their book How To Succeed In Marriage Without Even Trying."

New installments of the six-episode series — which is written by Ann Noble and guest stars comedian Suzanne Westenhofer — will be posted every other Saturday on Jill's official website JillBennett.com, with additional footage running on alternate Saturdays.
